Trappers play a vital role in protecting natural habitats, maintaining biodiversity, as well as limiting aggressive diseases such as rabies. Many envision trappers as outdated, and possibly barbaric (We've all seen those frightful bear traps in horror films). However, neither of those ideas are accurate in present day. The ultimate goal of a trapper is to humanely remove wildlife in order to protect our children, pets, and the overall health of our communities.

Trapper Tips

  • If possible, ensure that pet food (or inviting bits of trash) are not left out overnight.
  • Invest in a motion sensing light to deter animal intruders.
  • Do not attempt to trap wildlife without education or experience in that field. More often than not, an inexperienced trapper creates a smarter animal, making it harder to trap further down the road. Once an animal has figured out the game, they will outsmart basic traps and require more advanced methods.
  • Consider a working dog such as a Great Pyrenees. This is not a feasible method for some, but if you have a herd or flock, adding a protective breed in may just do the trick.
